Population, Health and Environment (PHE)
Our Population, Health, and Environment (PHE) thematic area focuses on driving community development through simultaneously improving access and equity to primary health care services, particularly family planning and reproductive health, while also helping communities conserve biodiversity, manage natural resources, and develop sustainable livelihoods.
We extend last mile information and services in communities where we work on PHE. We work to improve health and conservation outcomes. Through our integrated PHE approach we support communities to become more resilient and better able to adapt to climate change.
In our PHE thematic area we implement projects which aim to reduce threats to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem degradation in the target communities while simultaneously increasing access to family planning and sexual and reproductive health to improve maternal and child health in target communities.
In this work we ensure that women and girls in our target communities have control over whether and when to have children so they can choose to pursue education, employment and leadership roles in their communities.
We generate knowledge and package information about conservation and reproductive health together, and engage communities to understand and promote reproductive rights and use of contraception.
We create and support teams of local peers so they can lead efforts to protect the ecosystem for future generations.
We encourage and motivate leaders in the local, regional, and national governments to broaden the reach of population, health, and environment programs across communities in Uganda.
